Head-to-head

## Vidalytics vs Wistia for VSLs (2026)

You are down to two hosts for the same sales video. One meters every play. The other is built as a video department for a marketing team.

Pick Vidalytics if you run cold paid traffic to a long VSL and need play-billed hosting with smart autoplay, spot-in-video conversion tracking, and sales-oriented A/B tests; pick Wistia if you want a broader B2B video stack (record, host, webinars) with HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot automation on Business + Signals.

Quick answer

**Vidalytics** is our top pick for most people. Vidalytics is a player for paid-traffic video sales letters. I would start on Pro when the report you need is the moment in the video that lined up with the sale, plus tests in the same player. The no-cost plan and Starter will host the file. They do not include that conversion report.

* **Vidalytics.** Best for Cold-traffic video sales letters that need a play meter and the second that produced the sale. Has a free tier.
* **Wistia.** Best for Teams that record, host a library and sync viewers into HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot. Has a free tier.

| Tool | Built for | Billing | Autoplay | Conversion | Automation | From |
| ---------- | ------------- | ------------------ | ------------------- | ------------------ | ---------------- | --------- |
| Vidalytics | Sales letters | Included plays | Restarts on unmute | Spot in video, Pro | Player analytics | Free tier |
| Wistia | Team video HQ | Storage, bandwidth | Muted, per browsers | CTA or lead form | Signals tier | Free tier |

### Vidalytics: pros and cons

##### What works

* The homepage is written for video sales letters, funnel builders and direct-response marketers, and it also names course creators and ecommerce brands.
* Smart Autoplay detects when the browser blocks sound, falls back to muted playback, and restarts the video when the viewer unmutes, so the opening is not skipped.
* On Pro, conversion tracking marks the spot in the video that drove the sale and pairs it with revenue and ROI.
* Heatmaps, segmentation and Experiments, the A/B tests, sit on that same Pro tier.

##### What to watch

* Once monthly plays exceed the allowance included in the plan, extra plays are billed at that plan's overage rate. Cold traffic is what pushes a letter over that line.
* The conversion-rate comparison in public is Vidalytics' own case study. Read it as the vendor's result.
* The outside record is a G2 comparison page, which is a thinner set of independent reviews than a long-running video platform carries.

### Wistia: pros and cons

##### What works

* The homepage presents one place to host, record, run webinars and automate, which it calls your team's video HQ.
* Business includes in-video calls to action and forms, heatmaps and A/B tests.
* The Signals tier adds HubSpot, Marketo and Pardot, plus lead scoring and pipeline attribution.
* A G2 reviewer calls the embed easy and says new features keep arriving.
* Webinars are their own product, with a stated attendee cap and stream length on that tier.

##### What to watch

* Marketing-automation connections are available on the Signals tier, a long step up from Business.
* Webinars are priced on their own tier, above the hosting plans.
* The meter is storage, bandwidth and seats, so a growing library costs more even when the letter itself is quiet.
* The help center treats muted autoplay as the path that plays reliably. There is no documented restart when the viewer unmutes.
* Creators on Reddit call the product strong on day-to-day use and more than a simple course library needs.

### The real differences

#### A sales-letter player against a marketing video host

The search wistia vs vidalytics usually comes from someone who already pays for Wistia and has a long letter that has to earn its media spend.

Each host is sold for a different job. [Vidalytics](https://www.vidalytics.com/) says it is built for video sales letters, online course creators, funnel builders, direct-response marketers and ecommerce brands. [Wistia](https://wistia.com/) calls itself your team's video HQ, covering hosting, creation, webinars and automation. If the file on the page sits in front of cold traffic, judge the player, the autoplay behaviour and whether a sale can be pinned to a second. If the same people also record demos, keep a help library and pass viewers into a marketing platform, judge the account Wistia is actually selling.

[See the annual rates](#rates) before you compare features. The meters are different, and the first row of each price list hides that.

#### Autoplay: restart on unmute, or muted because the browser says so

A letter that starts silent, or that starts halfway through, wastes the hook you paid to put in front of the viewer.

On the [Vidalytics pricing page](https://www.vidalytics.com/pricing), Smart Autoplay detects when sound is blocked, falls back to muted playback, and restarts the video when the viewer unmutes. The opening plays again with sound instead of continuing from the muted middle. [Wistia's playback troubleshooting](https://support.wistia.com/en/articles/8274276-playback-troubleshooting) states the browser constraint directly: muted autoplay is the only approach that plays reliably across modern browsers. That is an honest description of what Chrome and Safari allow. It is also a weaker fit when the first ten seconds have to be heard. Use Wistia autoplay when a muted start is acceptable. Use the restart behaviour when the spoken hook is the thing you bought the click for.

#### Two different meanings of conversion

[Vidalytics' own comparison](https://www.vidalytics.com/compare/wistia) says Wistia lacks conversion tracking that shows the exact spot in the video that drove conversions. Take that as the vendor arguing for its metric.

The metric itself is on the pricing page: conversion tracking, on Pro and above, shows the spot that drove conversions, with revenue and ROI. Heatmaps, segmentation and Experiments sit on that tier too. Wistia counts a different event. Its [analytics page](https://wistia.com/product/analytics) defines conversion rate as the share of viewers who complete a call to action, an annotation link or an email capture form. A filled lead form is a real result for a B2B team. It is a different result from a sale pinned to a second, which is what a media buyer reconciling ad spend usually wants from the player.

Business also includes heatmaps and A/B tests, so watch behaviour is visible on that tier too. They count different events. One product documents a sale at a timestamp. The other documents a click or a form inside the player. Pick the unit your media buyer already reports.

#### The split test is the vendor's, so label it that way

The only conversion-rate numbers in this comparison come from a write-up Vidalytics published.

It is a Golden Tree split across Wistia, YouTube, Vimeo and Vidalytics. The page says the test covered more than 595,000 sessions. In the Wistia leg, the write-up reports a 0.24% conversion rate on Vidalytics against 0.19% on Wistia. That is a vendor case study, not an independent lab. The sample is large enough to be interesting, and the publisher had a result to sell. I would not move a media budget on those two rates alone. I would use them as a reason to run the test on your own letter, on Pro, where Experiments live.

#### What people who are not the vendor say

On [G2's Vidalytics vs Wistia page](https://www.g2.com/compare/vidalytics-vs-wistia), one reviewer says Vidalytics gives deeper analytics around engagement and where viewers convert. Another says Wistia is easy to embed and keeps adding features. Those two lines match the product split: depth on the converting moment, versus a player teams can drop into a site and keep current.

In an [r/MarketersSuccessClub thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/MarketersSuccessClub/comments/1mn5yh9/what%5Fare%5Fthe%5Fbest%5Fvideo%5Fhosting%5Fplatforms%5Ffor/) on video hosting, creators call Wistia strong on everyday use and analytics, and more tool than a pure course library needs, at a price that feels high for that narrower job. Nobody in the sources we used describes a wave of complaints about Vidalytics play overages. The billing risk is still real, because the pricing page charges extra plays after the allowance. It is just not a complaint that dominates the pages we read.

#### When the sale has to reach the ad account

Some letters need a third job: the cart sale posted back to the ad platform, on the play that earned it.

That is a different product from either host on this page. [TrackPlay](/reviews/trackplay) is a player that ties the play to the sale and sends that conversion on to Meta, TikTok and GA4\. Tests run under one embed and are decided on the cart-verified sale. Cart postbacks cover ClickBank, ClickFunnels, Kiwify, BuyGoods, Digistore24, WarriorPlus and JVZoo. Paid plans start at $29 a month, every feature is on every paid plan, and the meter is plays.

It will not run your webinars, your channel pages or an SEO content library. That limit is the shape of a player built for paid-traffic conversion, and it matters when the video's job is content marketing. The letter, the buyer and non-buyer watch curve, and the cart postback are still there for a direct-response offer.

Outside reviews are thin, and signup asks for an invitation code. A new player looks like that before a public track record exists. The features on the plans do not change because of it. You also cannot lean on a pile of third-party reviews before you send traffic.

### What each one costs

The subscriptions are not the same kind of bill. Vidalytics sells an allowance of plays, then a per-play overage. Wistia sells storage, bandwidth and seats, and parks marketing-automation connections and webinars on higher tiers. Annual rates are in the table. Paying month to month costs more than those annual rates. Both vendors also list a no-cost plan with a tight cap.

| Plan | Annual | Meter | On this tier |
| ------------------ | ------ | --------- | --------------------------- |
| Vidalytics Free | Free | Plays | 1,000 plays, 3 videos |
| Vidalytics Starter | $19 | Plays | Hosting, then extra plays |
| Vidalytics Pro | $63 | Plays | Spot conversion and tests |
| Wistia Free | Free | Storage | 25 GB, 200 GB bandwidth |
| Wistia Business | $79 | Storage | CTAs, heatmaps, tests |
| Wistia Signals | $329 | Storage | HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot |
| Wistia webinars | $429 | Attendees | 500 people, 1.5-hour stream |

Extra plays on Vidalytics' annual paid tiers are billed at $0.02 a play after the allowance. A letter watched far past the included plays adds that line. A Wistia library adds storage and bandwidth instead, including files that are not the offer video. Match the meter to the video you actually run. A 14-day trial covers Vidalytics' paid plans. Prices and buying terms checked on each vendor's own pages, current as of 12 October 2026.

Our pick

### Vidalytics

Vidalytics is a player for paid-traffic video sales letters. I would start on Pro when the report you need is the moment in the video that lined up with the sale, plus tests in the same player. The no-cost plan and Starter will host the file. They do not include that conversion report.

### Frequently asked questions

Can I use Wistia for a sales letter?

Yes. It will host the file and play it. The analytics page scores calls to action and lead forms. Choose it for a letter when that report is enough, or when the account also has to record and run webinars.

Is Vidalytics only for direct response?

Its homepage leads with sales letters and direct response, and it also names course creators, funnel builders and ecommerce brands. The analytics on Pro are still about conversions, heatmaps and tests.

Which costs less when the video is watched constantly?

Compare the meter, not only the first paid row. Heavy plays add an overage on Vidalytics after the allowance. A large library adds storage and bandwidth on Wistia even if each file is watched less.

Do I need the Signals tier for HubSpot?

Yes, if the connection you want is HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, lead scoring or pipeline attribution. Business without that tier still has calls to action, forms, heatmaps and tests.
